I just created a code sample to demonstrate a basic image gallery to upload and view photos using ASP.NET MVC.  Here is the download link:

The image gallery supports uploading a new picture:

Behind the scene, it uses the jQuery.FileUpload control to support the file uploading, and uses fancybox control to display the nice and elegant zooming functionality for images.   After you download the sample, you will get the complete source code to debug and run.  The code sample can be easily extended to support more advanced functions, e.g. displaying a progress bar while images are uploaded, and limiting the image file size.
